Half-Kneeling Direct (One-Touch) Overhead Pass to Zone 4

Goal of the Drill
Develop the ability to deliver an overhead pass to zone 4 in a single touch without holding the ball, while keeping balance on one knee; improve reaction, hand position and setting timing.
Explanation of the Drill
One player kneels on one knee in front of the net between zones 2 and 3. The other player stands behind the 3-metre line. The back player starts the drill by sending the ball with an overhead pass to the player at the net. Without holding the ball above the head, the player at the net delivers it to zone 4 in a single overhead-pass touch. The ball is retrieved by the back player and the drill continues the same way.
In this drill the ball is never controlled or held. The player must get under the ball in time, bring the hands into the setting position in advance and make contact just above the head. Because the drill is done on one knee, balance must be maintained, the shoulders aimed at the target, and the pass produced by coordinated action of the fingers, wrists and upper body. The aim is to direct the ball smoothly and accurately to zone 4 on every repetition.
