Half-Kneeling Controlled Overhead Pass to Zone 4

    Goal of the Drill

Develop the overhead passing (setting) technique while holding balance on one knee, improve upper-body control and build the ability to deliver an accurate ball to zone 4.

    Explanation of the Drill

One player kneels on one knee in front of the net between zones 2 and 3. The other player stands behind the 3-metre line. The back player starts the drill by sending the ball with an overhead pass to the player at the net. The player at the net controls the incoming ball above the head, holds it briefly in the setting position and then delivers a controlled overhead pass to zone 4. The ball is retrieved by the back player and the drill continues the same way.

Because the drill is done on one knee, the player must keep the torso upright, turn the shoulders toward the target and make contact above the head. The fingers stay naturally spread, the ball is never taken into the palms, and the power comes not only from the arms but from coordinated shoulder, torso and wrist action. The aim is to deliver a set of the same height and accuracy on every repetition without losing balance.
