Serve Receive – Target-Directed Forearm Passing

Goal of the Drill
Develop serve-receive technique, passing accuracy and the ability to direct the ball to the setter’s zone under control; build the skill of taking the right position after the serve and producing a quality first ball.
Explanation of the Drill
Two players stand on opposite sides of the net behind the 3-metre line. A hoop is placed in front of the net between zones 2 and 3 as a target. One player starts the drill by sending the ball over as if serving, under control. The receiving player, in the serve-receive ready position, moves toward the incoming ball and tries to pass it into the hoop between zones 2 and 3. Roles are swapped after each repetition and the drill continues back and forth.
In the reception the player bends the knees slightly, keeps the weight on the balls of the feet and moves behind the ball with short steps. The arms form a solid platform without bending at the elbows, the power on contact comes from the legs, and the ball is directed to the target at a controlled angle. The aim is not merely to keep the ball in play but to deliver an accurate first ball into the zone where the setter can work comfortably.
