    Two-Direction Target Setting Drill

    Goal of the Drill

Develop setting accuracy and directional control; build the setter’s ability to deliver the ball to zones 2 and 4 at the right height and angle.

    Explanation of the Drill

One player takes the setter position in front of the net between zones 2 and 3. The other stands behind the 3-metre line and starts the drill with an overhead pass to the setter. The setter moves under the incoming ball and tries to set it onto the target (cone or hoop) placed in zone 2. After the set number of repetitions, the same work is repeated to the target in zone 4. This way the setter practises delivering controlled, accurate sets to both pins.

The player must get under the ball early, keep the elbows in a natural position and make contact just above the head. The power comes not only from the arms but from a controlled rise of the knees, torso balance and the direction given by the fingers. The aim is to deliver the same height, tempo and accuracy to both targets.
