Moving Overhead Pass and Position Switch Drill

Goal of the Drill
Develop overhead passing on the move, position changes on court and the habit of moving correctly after the pass; get players to move quickly and under control into their new positions after setting.
Explanation of the Drill
Two players face each other parallel to the net. One starts the drill with an overhead pass to the partner. The receiving player passes the ball while moving parallel to the net toward the side of the court. Meanwhile, the player who sent the ball runs without the ball to take the position vacated on the other side. On completing the movement, the player turns to face the partner again and sends the ball with an overhead pass. The same pattern continues in the opposite direction, so that on every repetition players both pass and change position.
Throughout the drill it is important that players get under the ball while moving, make the overhead contact above the head and move quickly into their new positions after the pass. The aim is not just to pass correctly but to build the habit of moving after the pass so that in-game position changes become fluid.
