Basic Overhead Pass to Zone 4

Goal of the Drill
Develop overhead-passing technique, setting accuracy and the ability to deliver a controlled ball to zone 4; get the player to take the right position and deliver a balanced, accurate set.
Explanation of the Drill
Two players face each other parallel to the net. One starts the drill by tossing the ball to the partner under control. The other moves into position under the ball and, without jumping, uses the overhead-pass technique above the head to send it to zone 4. The ball is retrieved by the player at the starting point and the drill continues the same way.
During the set the player bends the knees slightly, prepares the hands in the setting position before the ball arrives and makes contact just above the head. The fingers stay spread in a natural position, the ball is never taken into the palms, and the set is directed by a controlled rise of the legs together with coordinated hand and wrist action. The height, tempo and accuracy of the set should be maintained on every repetition.
