Dig-to-Attack Transition – Zone 4 Attack

Goal of the Drill
Develop the ability to move quickly into the attacking position after a dig, the timing with the setter and effective attacking from zone 4.
Explanation of the Drill
One player stands behind zone 4 and the other directly opposite across the net (zone 2 of the other court). The first player starts the drill by sending the ball to the partner across the net. The receiving player controls it with a forearm pass and sends it back to the partner. Immediately after that pass they move to the other side of the net and take the setter position between zones 2 and 3. The first player, having controlled the passed ball, sends it to the partner who has now become the setter. The setter lifts the ball to zone 4 as an attacking set. The attacker uses correct approach steps, rises to the ball and executes the spike from zone 4.
Throughout the drill it is important that the players switch roles quickly and smoothly. The player who becomes the setter after the pass must deliver the ball at a height and spot suited to the tempo of the attack. The attacker must adjust the approach to the tempo of the set, complete the last two steps rhythmically and contact the ball at the highest reachable point.
