Target-Directed Attack from Zone 2

Goal of the Drill
Develop attack timing from zone 2, the transition from defense to attack and directional control of the attack; build fast attack preparation after a dig and accurate spiking to designated targets.
Explanation of the Drill
One player takes zone 2 and the other the setter position between zones 2 and 3. Cones are placed as targets in zones 1 and 5 of the opposing court. The player in zone 2 starts the drill by sending the ball to the setter. On the first contact the setter sends a controlled ball back so the player can dig it. The player passes it back to the setter with correct forearm-pass technique. Immediately after the dig, the player begins the attack approach without losing time. The setter delivers the ball to zone 2 at the right tempo and height. The attacker approaches the ball, executes the spike and tries to hit the target cones in zone 1 or 5.
Throughout the drill the player must move into the attacking position quickly after defending, adjust the approach steps to the tempo of the set and contact the ball at the highest reachable point. In attacking, the priority is not power alone but target selection, accuracy and directional control.
