    Seated Butterfly Stretch

    Goal of the Drill

Increase flexibility of the inner hip (adductors) and groin; support recovery by releasing tension in the hip joint after training.

    Explanation of the Drill

The player sits on the floor, lets the knees fall out to the sides, presses the soles of the feet together and draws the heels toward the body. The back is upright and the shoulders relaxed. The knees are pressed gently toward the floor; stop where tension is felt and hold the position without forcing it. Optionally, leaning the torso slightly forward deepens the stretch.

Breathe deeply and evenly throughout and keep the shoulders relaxed and away from the ears. Do not bounce or press suddenly — the stretch should be steady and controlled.
