    Partner Standing (No-Jump) Spiking

    Goal of the Drill

Develop standing spiking technique, correct arm mechanics and ball control; get players to make a controlled attacking contact, deliver an accurate ball and build the right swing habit.

    Explanation of the Drill

Two players stand on opposite sides of the net behind the 3-metre line, facing each other. One tosses the ball in front of themselves under control and starts the drill by sending it over the net with a standing spike motion. The partner catches the ball under control with the hands, then applies the same technique to send it back. The drill continues back and forth at the same tempo.

On contact the player meets the ball in front of the shoulder, swings the hitting arm from back to front in a smooth motion and contacts the ball with an open hand. The body weight transfers from the back foot to the front foot and the wrist directs the ball. The aim here is not to hit hard but to learn correct spiking mechanics, increase accuracy and build technical repetition.
